Domestic and family violence is a widespread and complex social issue, and one that is likely to be encountered by virtually all those working in the community services and human resources sector, both amongst your client and staff group. It has been clearly demonstrated that communities where key services have a shared and complex understanding of domestic violence and work together in a coordinated way to address the causes and effects of this violence are much more successful at tackling the issue and are able to institute long-term social change. Training has been identified as a critical part of this equation.

It is important to have a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence, the effects on victims and children, the impact of community attitudes on our understanding of and responses to domestic and family violence, and knowledge of the predictors of risk. However, even this comprehensive knowledge will not necessarily assist all workers to develop a best practice response to domestic and family violence.

This is where the training offered by the IWCADV to other professional organisations can be critical in ensuring that your staff and organisation are well placed to respond appropriately and effectively to those experiencing domestic and family violence. IWCADV training has been developed with the aim of building skills as well as knowledge; developing insight not just understanding, and; assisting critical analysis and reflection not just the absorption of facts. The IWCADV can tailor high quality and responsive training to the unique needs of your organisation for more information click on the Facilitated Training tab on our website.

In addition, the IWCADV also expands professional practice more comprehensively in the region by hosting a variety of professional development opportunities on a range of related topics for more information click on the Hosted Training tab on our website.
